Obsidian Plugin Features: New Map, Import Markdown, Export PNG
In Obsidian every map is a .kmindz file in the vault, so creating, importing, and exporting all revolve around the vault. The editor itself matches the Web App, so the canvas and node-content tutorials apply as they are.
Key takeaways
- Right-click a folder to create and open a .kmindz map.
- Import picks a .md file straight from the vault and replaces the current map after confirmation.
- PNG export lands next to the map, and a notice shows the path.
New map
Right-click a folder in the file explorer and choose "New KMind map": an Untitled.kmindz file is created and opens in the editor.
The root node is already selected, so double-click or tap Space to start typing.
Import a vault Markdown file
Click Import in the top bar, choose "Choose file…" and pick a .md file from the vault; confirm "Replace current map" and the heading outline becomes the map.
Click "Fit view" afterwards to see the whole structure.
Export PNG into the vault
Click Export in the top bar, choose PNG, and click Export.
The PNG is written next to the map, named after the map title, and a notice shows the full path so you can reference it in a note.

FAQ
Is the imported Markdown file changed?
No. Import only reads the .md file to build the map; the original stays as it was.
Can other tools open .kmindz?
.kmindz is an SVG with embedded data: any image viewer shows the preview, and the Web App and SiYuan plugin import it directly.
